LS Cable & System, a South Korean cable and materials manufacturer founded in 1962, has put an 86-acre Greenbrier site in Chesapeake under contract for its LS Advanced Materials Manufacturing Complex. The planned facility is separate from the company’s LS GreenLink subsea-cable plant under construction elsewhere in Chesapeake. Together, the two projects represent nearly $1.4 billion in announced investment and are intended to expand domestic supply chains for energy, defense, and advanced manufacturing.

Virginia Beach regulates short-term rentals through zoning permits, safety and insurance documentation, tax registration and parking plans. At the Oceanfront, newly registering short-term rentals in the overlay district require a City Council conditional-use permit, while some older properties qualify as grandfathered. City rules require at least one off-street parking space per bedroom and prohibit on-street parking from being counted toward that requirement.

PETA announced on September 2 that it is offering up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the abuse and abandonment of Rambo, an approximately 6-year-old Yorkshire terrier. The organization says Rambo was found in a Norfolk field on July 29 with severe injuries and was euthanized on a veterinarian’s recommendation on August 7. Norfolk Police are investigating, while the alleged perpetrator has not been identified.

Old Dominion will open its 2026 football season against Norfolk State at S.B. Ballard Stadium in Norfolk. The university says the game will honor Lt. Col. Brandon A. Shah, an ODU alumnus and Army ROTC leader who was fatally wounded while protecting cadets during violence on campus on March 12, 2026. Shah had returned to ODU in 2022 to lead the Army ROTC Monarch Battalion after an Army career that included combat aviation service.

Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) is a pediatric hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. Audrey Leishman survived sepsis in 2015 and, with her husband, professional golfer Marc Leishman, created the Begin Again Foundation to support survivors and promote sepsis awareness. The foundation’s new commitment is intended to support CHKD’s pediatric sepsis recognition, prevention and education work.

York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report at Wyndham Governor’s Green timeshares in York County on the morning of September 2, 2026. A 45-year-old Alexandria man died after deputies arrested him and emergency personnel transported him toward a hospital for a mental-health evaluation. The State Medical Examiner’s Office is to determine the cause and manner of death, while the sheriff’s office investigates the incident.
