Nipsey’s Hookah Lounge operated from a property on Elmwood Avenue near 73rd Street in Southwest Philadelphia and was not licensed as a nightclub, according to city records cited by The Inquirer. Off-duty Philadelphia police Officer Alhassane Barry, 29, was killed and another man was injured after an Aug. 16 confrontation that investigators say began inside the lounge and moved outside. The shooting investigation remains open and no charges had been filed in the reporting reviewed.

SEPTA plans a major accessibility renovation of the Market-Frankford Line’s underground 11th Street Station at 11th and Market streets in Center City Philadelphia. Upper Pottsgrove Township Police Cpl. Sean Farrell fatally shot 22-year-old Glenwood Earl Pysher IV on Aug. 23, 2026, after responding to a 911 call at a home Pysher had mistakenly approached. Prosecutors allege body-camera footage showed Pysher was unarmed, had his hands raised, and was about 17 to 20 feet away when Farrell fired twice. Farrell was charged with voluntary manslaughter on Sept. 1, and the criminal case remains pending.
