Tyler Ulrich was a 21-year-old sophomore safety for Southern Nazarene University, a Division II program in Bethany, Oklahoma. He was injured during SNU’s Oct. 10 road game against Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, hospitalized afterward, and died Oct. 15. The university and local reporting described the injury as traumatic or undisclosed; the specific medical details were not publicly confirmed in the strongest sources.
Tecumseh Public Schools placed its high school principal, athletic director and counselor on administrative leave while police and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation pursue a joint investigation related to head football coach Randon Lowe. Lowe had already been placed on leave in late September amid a criminal investigation; no charges or arrest had been reported in the accepted coverage. The district stressed that the additional employees’ leave is not disciplinary and said school operations and activities would continue.
A multiday heavy-rain event affected central and western Oklahoma from at least Oct. 13 through Oct. 15. Heavy rainfall and flash flooding affected parts of Oklahoma from October 14 into October 15, with local reports recording totals ranging from more than 5 inches at Will Rogers International Airport to more than 11 inches at a Hinton farm over two days. Farmers are assessing whether the moisture will aid ponds and newly planted wheat or instead cause washed-out seed, flooded fields, and crop rot. Daniel Pae is the executive director of the Greater Oklahoma City Asian Chamber of Commerce, an organization that supports Asian-American businesses and economic engagement in the Oklahoma City region. The chamber’s official staff page identified Pae as executive director before the announced transition. Pae said he has held the role for nearly two years.
