A shooting at a high-rise apartment building near 15 E. Grant St. in Minneapolis' Loring Park area prompted a large multiagency response on September 2. City officials said two civilian shooting victims died—one at the scene and one at Hennepin County Medical Center—and the suspected shooter also died. Police have not publicly stated a motive or officially named the suspected shooter in the city release; local reporting identified him as Carlton Neal Johnson II, 35, citing people familiar with the investigation.

Vance Boelter is facing a separate Hennepin County prosecution arising from the June 14, 2025 shootings that killed former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and wounded state Sen. John Hoffman, Yvette Hoffman and Hope Hoffman. He previously pleaded guilty in federal court and is serving two consecutive life sentences plus 40 years, while the state case continues independently. The state charges include first-degree murder and attempted murder, as well as allegations involving impersonation of a police officer and the Hortmans’ dog.

A District 196 school bus and a KinderCare Education transport bus collided at the intersection of 140th Street West and Galaxie Avenue in Apple Valley on the morning of Sept. 2. The smaller KinderCare vehicle overturned after being struck, and emergency crews and bystanders evacuated its occupants. Apple Valley police are investigating with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol.

A July 2026 release from the Joint Economic Committee’s Democratic minority said U.S. farmers spent $1.4 billion more on diesel during the spring planting season than in 2025, using AAA, Energy Information Administration and USDA data. Its state table estimated that filling a typical Minnesota farm fuel tank cost $1,497 more at the 2026 seasonal peak than at the comparable 2025 peak. KSTP subsequently reported that the committee’s calculations put Minnesota crop farmers’ added diesel costs at more than $100 million and that farmers and state officials expect fuel costs to pressure food prices.

Medtronic announced a strategic partnership with Hong Kong-based Cornerstone Robotics centered on Cornerstone’s Sentire soft-tissue surgical robot. The approximately $700 million investment gives Medtronic rights to distribute Sentire in approved markets outside the United States, alongside Medtronic’s Hugo robotic-assisted surgery system. The deal expands Medtronic’s effort to gain share in robotic surgery, a market still dominated in the U.S. by Intuitive Surgical’s da Vinci platform.

The Minnesota Wild announced a multiyear agreement making Prime Video the exclusive streaming distributor for locally televised Wild games within the club’s broadcast territory. The club is also launching Wild+, a team-owned multimedia network that will produce non-nationally exclusive games and distribute them through Prime Video as well as planned cable, satellite and over-the-air outlets. The move comes as the NHL expands Prime Video’s local-market offerings to six clubs for the 2026-27 season.
