Bedrock and General Motors are pursuing a redevelopment of Detroit’s Renaissance Center and surrounding east riverfront, covering more than 40 acres of the downtown waterfront. The proposal is undergoing Detroit’s Community Benefits Ordinance process because it requires substantial public support, with governmental and board approvals sought by the end of 2026 and a first construction phase targeted for 2027. Plans call for adaptive reuse and new construction, including housing, hotel, office, retail and public waterfront space.
Michigan’s Sex Offender Registration Act (SORA) requires Michigan State Police (MSP) to maintain both a law-enforcement database and a public registry. On September 9, 2026, the Michigan Supreme Court held that the 2021 SORA requirements cannot constitutionally be applied retroactively to people whose relevant offenses occurred before July 1, 2011. MSP subsequently began removing affected registrants while continuing to review its records; the ruling does not overturn underlying convictions.

Ford Motor Co. and Carhartt renovated a deteriorated baseball diamond on Detroit’s Belle Isle and renamed it Ford Community Field. The Parade Company is preparing the 100th edition, presented by Gardner White, for Thanksgiving Day 2026; volunteer recruitment and the annual Grand Jester tradition are already underway.
