Michigan Republicans lost 11 House seats and majority control in the Nov. 3, 2026 midterm. Speaker Matt Hall, who led the House GOP caucus as minority leader in 2023-24 and as speaker in 2025-26, narrowly won his own reelection. On Nov. 5 the House GOP caucus chose Rep. Tom Kunse over Hall as its leader for the next session.
