Baltimore police said five people were shot shortly after midnight on October 15 in the Highlandtown area of Southeast Baltimore. Two adult men died, while two teenage boys and a 23-year-old man were hospitalized; police had announced no arrests in the initial reports. The shooting also damaged a nearby business and prompted public concern from city officials and residents.
BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport completed a full rehabilitation of Runway 10-28, its longest runway and one of its two commercial runways. The $83.8 million project began July 22 and was funded through the FAA Infrastructure Grant program and the Maryland Transportation Trust Fund. Work included milling and paving, plus a modern LED runway-lighting system, with overnight closures of the other main runway needed for intersection work.
Marilyn Mosby, Baltimore’s former State’s Attorney, was convicted in separate federal trials of two perjury counts and one mortgage-fraud count. In July 2025, the Fourth Circuit vacated the mortgage-fraud conviction because of an erroneous venue instruction, while affirming the perjury convictions and remanding the mortgage count for further proceedings. Federal prosecutors have now moved to dismiss the remaining mortgage-fraud count with prejudice, ending any retrial on that charge.
Under Armour’s annual Armour Day mobilized more than 900 employees for volunteer projects across Baltimore City Schools on October 15, 2026. At Reginald F. Lewis High School, Under Armour, CareFirst, and the Impact Fitness Foundation renovated and unveiled a weight room and fitness center as part of the Project Rampart partnership.
Maryland colleges and universities are already required to maintain written sexual-assault policies and submit them to the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC), which periodically reviews them. Gov. Wes Moore’s October 14 directive asks MHEC to develop statewide recommendations to strengthen sexual-misconduct rules, reporting, and disciplinary standards. The commission is to work with the Maryland Office of the Attorney General and report back within 90 days.
Baltimore City Council has been examining how federal immigration enforcement affects students and families through its Education, Youth, and Older Adults Committee. An informational hearing measure adopted in December 2025 called for school-system, health, immigrant-affairs and community representatives to discuss the effects of escalated enforcement on city students. The discussion follows a June 2026 ICE arrest near Commodore John Rodgers Elementary/Middle School and subsequent school-system efforts to clarify protections and support for families.
CFG Bank has opened a new retail branch at Baltimore Peninsula, the waterfront development where the bank has maintained its headquarters for more than two years. The location serves personal and commercial banking customers, includes an on-site ATM, and operates weekdays. CFG’s corporate-office location page distinguishes its administrative headquarters from a branch, while the bank’s main site now lists Baltimore Peninsula among its Maryland branches.
