San Francisco’s Family Zoning Plan is an enacted citywide rezoning program, not a newly proposed plan. It was approved by the Board of Supervisors and signed into law by Mayor Daniel Lurie on December 12, 2025, with ordinances taking effect January 12, 2026. The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for the North Bay Interior Mountains as dry offshore flow and strong winds created conditions favorable for rapid wildfire spread. The warning covered the Sonoma and Mayacamas mountains and the Lake Berryessa area, rather than the entire Bay Area. The warning expired at 11 a.m. Friday, but forecasters said very dry, near-critical fire-weather conditions could persist at higher elevations into Saturday.

A two-vehicle collision on eastbound Interstate 80 near the Air Base Parkway off-ramp in Fairfield killed a 19-year-old San Pablo man late Tuesday, October 13. About an hour later, a Tesla struck a CHP patrol vehicle positioned within the freeway closure for the fatal crash, injuring two officers. CHP said the officers were released from the hospital and that the Tesla’s driver-assistance status remained under investigation.

San Jose police arrested Archbishop Mitty High School athletic trainer Kelvin Chiu after a 16-year-old student reported an alleged sexual battery during injury treatment on Oct. 8. Authorities say Chiu recorded the alleged incident and that a subsequent search of his phone found child sexual abuse material. The school and Diocese of San Jose placed him on administrative leave; police say his position of trust means there may be additional victims.

Former Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao is on trial in federal court alongside her former partner Andre Jones and recycling-company executives David and Andy Duong. Prosecutors allege a 2022–24 pay-to-play arrangement involving campaign support, payments to Jones and favorable treatment for California Waste Solutions and Evolutionary Homes; all defendants have pleaded not guilty. Opening statements began October 14, and prosecution testimony began October 15 with Thao’s former chief of staff, Leigh Hanson.

Zoox, Amazon’s autonomous-vehicle unit, is building purpose-built, bidirectional robotaxis without steering wheels or pedals. It opened a 220,000-square-foot Hayward production facility in June 2025, with stated capacity to assemble up to 10,000 vehicles annually. The company’s newly reported warehouse lease would expand its operational footprint in the same western Hayward industrial corridor as it scales its fleet.

Kristaps Porziņģis is a Golden State Warriors forward/center whose health-related absence kept him out of training camp and the club’s preseason games. The Warriors have not publicly identified the underlying condition or set a timetable for his return. Porziņģis returned to the team facility on October 13 and met with team leadership and medical-performance staff before the club issued its update.
