Sacramento’s Vision Zero School Safety Project targets pedestrian and traffic-safety conditions around schools. Sacramento City Unified School District launched a campaign urging voters to approve a November 2026 parcel-tax measure dedicated to special education and early-intervention programs. The proposed tax would charge $95 annually per parcel and requires two-thirds voter approval; if passed, it would begin July 1, 2027. The proposal comes as the district faces a projected $222 million structural deficit, although a trustee said the measure is intended for intervention services rather than to resolve the district’s fiscal crisis.
Intel has decided to retain ownership of the real estate at its 162-acre Folsom campus on Prairie City Road near Highway 50. The company had previously planned to sell the property and lease back part of the campus, amid broader cost-cutting and workforce reductions. Intel said the change was a strategic reassessment rather than a response to the quality of proposals received.
A solo semitruck crash on eastbound Interstate 80 near Floriston, east of Truckee, closed both eastbound lanes while responders handled the wreck and traffic control. Reporting based on California Highway Patrol and Caltrans QuickMap information said the tractor remained attached to its trailer and hung over the side of a bridge. The driver was ejected and was expected to be taken to Renown; no other vehicles were reported involved.
Assembly Bill 2691, the Public Trust Protection Act, would expand California’s existing disqualification for candidates convicted of public-trust crimes such as bribery, perjury, extortion, and embezzlement. The measure adds specified felony sexual-assault and human-sex-trafficking convictions, including qualifying out-of-state and international convictions. The Legislature has passed the bill, but it has not yet become law because it awaits Gov. Gavin Newsom’s decision.
Chalk It Up! is a Sacramento nonprofit’s annual Labor Day weekend arts festival, founded in 1991 as a street-painting event. Its 36th edition will turn the sidewalks around Fremont Park into a live chalk-art gallery while offering local music, vendors and family activities. Organizers say admission has remained free to the public since the festival began.
Davis provides solid-waste collection through an exclusive franchise agreement with Recology Davis, while the city administers diversion programs and regulatory compliance. Recology Davis has served the city since 2018, when it acquired the collection rights previously held by Davis Waste Removal. The current agreement was extended through the end of 2029, giving the city several years to design and procure a successor contract.
