Federal prosecutors allege that Derrick Harrison Enrico Brooks Jr. trafficked two teenage girls on the Figueroa Corridor in South Los Angeles and attempted to kidnap a woman after she fled an alleged assault. Brooks was arraigned in federal court on October 15, pleaded not guilty, and is being held without bond pending a December 1 trial date.
The Peak Fire broke out near San Gabriel Canyon Road and Ranch Road in Azusa on October 15, 2026, amid regional Red Flag fire-weather conditions. The fire grew to roughly 50 acres, threatened nearby structures, and led to evacuation orders and warnings. Los Angeles County later said Peak Fire evacuation warnings were lifted and downgraded to an advisory, allowing residents to return while crews worked overnight.
Miguel Rojas ended a 13-season Major League career that began with the Dodgers in 2014, included eight seasons with the Miami Marlins, and resumed with Los Angeles in 2023. The 37-year-old infielder announced his retirement after the Dodgers lost 6-4 to the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 4 of the 2026 National League Championship Series, completing a four-game sweep. Rojas is expected to remain with the Dodgers in a player-development capacity.
Los Angeles County prosecutors charged four men in connection with an alleged graffiti-vandalism campaign targeting buildings in downtown Los Angeles and elsewhere. Prosecutors allege the activity ran from August 2025 through August 2026 and involved climbing equipment, drones and online videos. One defendant, Javier Rezendez Rocha, worked for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power as an aide to electricians.
Los Angeles has three principal LAPD detention facilities with 24-hour medical clinics: 77th Street, Van Nuys and the Metropolitan Detention Center downtown. City officials warned in 2025 that budget reductions and medical-staff recruitment problems could jeopardize services at the facilities and require officers to transport people across the city for medical clearance. As of Oct. 16, 2026, the 77th Street jail remains open, but its on-site medical services are temporarily unavailable.
