The restriction emerged publicly at the first meeting of an LAUSD board committee examining AI in schools, following the board’s June action to limit student screen time. The moratorium does not bar teachers from using AI on district devices, and the district has not yet set a policy governing AI use on students’ personal devices.

The NBA announced penalties on Sept. 2 after an independent investigation by Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz found that the Los Angeles Clippers and Kawhi Leonard violated the league’s collectively bargained salary-cap-circumvention rules. The league said the misconduct involved off-court income opportunities and endorsement arrangements between Leonard and companies doing business with the Clippers.

Hurricane Marie became a Category 1 hurricane well offshore southwest of Baja California on Sept. 2 and was forecast to continue west-northwest, away from the Southern California coast. Although a direct California landfall was not expected, National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center forecasts indicated that Marie’s swell and tropical moisture could affect Southern California during the Labor Day weekend and into early the following week. The clearest anticipated hazards were dangerous surf, rip currents and possible coastal flooding; rainfall and thunderstorm details remained uncertain.

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is a new museum in Los Angeles’ Exposition Park, founded by filmmaker George Lucas and entrepreneur Mellody Hobson. Paul Dean Andrews, 43, of Lomita, is accused of making antisemitic telephone threats against the Jewish Community Center in Redondo Beach. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed the current case on August 18, 2026, after alleged calls on August 11 and August 13. The case follows an earlier firearm case in which Andrews received diversion conditioned on completing an anti-bias program, according to KTLA’s account of prosecutors’ statements.

The Shafter City Council approved a Title 9 municipal-code ordinance regulating sleeping and camping on city public property. The measure consolidates and expands on existing local rules concerning sidewalk obstruction, camping structures and camping in certain parks, according to KGET.
